9/11 and Personal Heroes Day

Most of you have probably never heard of “Personal Hero Day”, which makes sense, because it’s not an official day in the calendar.

However, I wholeheartedly believe there should be a day where we recognise and thank the people who have supported, guided and been there for us during the ups and downs, especially on the day after we remember the devastation of the events of 9/11 in 2001.

By reflecting on the tragedy of 9/11, we are reminded of the evil of the world that hurts us and loved ones around us. We are reminded that our life is a tiny piece of the puzzle, and we can feel like we’re living in hell. However, 9/11 on the other hand shows us who God is through the works of the people who come to the rescue and work hard to put in peace into the lives of those who need support. In devastating events like 9/11, we are called to remember the individual souls who made an impact on us and other people here and around the world.

Life is short, but it is so incredible how God brings all different people into our lives to shape us to be who we are. Through all the centuries and countries throughout the world, I find it a blessing to know the amazing people in my own life, those who impacted me in big and small ways; who all have unique and special gifts, and who were all made in the image and likeness of God. I think it’s important to share the wonderful qualities and works of people who have given us encouragement or wisdom in our personal lives, and to thank them.

When I look back to my high school days and in the month of September it was the time of year to celebrate the wonderful achievements and personal qualities of the year 12 cohort. Seeing people who have grown up in wisdom, strength and love, was, and is amazing.

The world needs to be reminded of peace. Let’s be that peace to others and share what makes them amazing!
